Chapters 40-51

  1. What do you think of the change in Mr. Micawber? Do you believe he has become a bad character under the influence of Uriah Heep?
  2. What are Mr. Wickfield’s faults?
  3. Even Dora recognizes that Agnes and David have more in common. Comment on the foolish choices that are made for the sake of true love.
  4. What is Mr. Dick’s role in the Strong’s household?
  5. Dickens seems to take a high moral attitude in upholding the sanctity of marriage. Mrs. Micawber will never desert Micawber despite all his faults. Dr. Strong will never think ill of Annie no matter what others may think. Comment on this attitude in light of Dickens dissolving his own marriage because he and Catherine were incompatible/ or because he found another woman.
  6. Was David justified in striking Uriah Heep?
  7. Compare and contrast these characters as parents: Mrs. Steerforth VS Mrs. Heep, Mr. Wickfield VS Betsy Trotwood
